Aakash Tablet – Cheapest Tablet in the World
After a huge success of the world’s cheapest car manufactured by India, the country is all set to step into the tech-world with the same strategy of offering good quality product at the best possible price. After a wait of about one year since a prototype was shown to the reporters, the Indian officials have finally launched the world’s cheapest tablet i.e. Aakash Tablet (also known as Akash Tab or $35 Tablet) is available at a price of just $60 (Rs 3000) in retail stores and probably much cheaper for students. The commercial version of Aakash Tablet is Ubislate which will be available from November with a few more features than the Government’s version.
The makers of Akash Tab are IIT Rajasthan in partnership with DataWind, a leading manufacturer of wireless web access products and services which is based in Montreal and is owned by Suneet Singh Tuli who is a Canadian of Indian descent.

Well Well Well, The big day is finally here. HRD Minister Sh. Kapil Sibbal will launch the much anticipated Indian made cheapest tablet in this world named “Akash“.
If you are planning to buy Akash Tablet Ipad in India, then you must have two big questions in your mind. Where to Buy it? and How to Buy it? You might have to wait till January, as government will be releasing 100,000 Computer tablets by January 2012
1) How Can I buy Akash tablet, I am a student of College/University : At the moment Govt, has not given any list of colleges or universities to which Akash tablet will be sold or distributed. The Best way to know if your college/university will provide you with one is to ask management of your college/university.
2) I am not a student, How can i buy it from Retaill or a shop/store : The manufacturers of Akash tablet Datawind UK. have announced that they will sell the tablet in retail with the name UbiSlate7. It will be sold from November 2011 onwards. Only catch here is that it will be priced at 2,999 not 1,750 as for students.
3) Will I be able to make calls from Akash tablet (GSM/CDSMA/3G/GPRS) : The student version won;t have this feature it will only support Wi/Fi. But Ubislate sold by datawind UK in commercial market will have option for GPRS sim. So that you can access internet on the go and make calls as well.
4) Price of Akash tablet for students : The actual price of Akash tablet is 2250 ($45), but Govt will be subsidizing the student tablets and provide it at rate of 1750 ($35)
5) Android Marketplace / where will the content come from? : There will be no android marketplace in the device for the moment, but it will come with prefetched apps of android, you can also download content from Govt. portal www.Sakshat.ac.in

After that 700 new tablets will be manufactured daily with more companies expecting to join hand in manufacturing the cheapest mobile tablet device in India and world.
It is still unclear if you will be able to buy Akash tablet from any shop or mobile store, but it is highly likely that initially it will be contributed via colleges and universities to the students.
